Katie BodifordBy Katie Bodiford
CSA Director of Meetings & Membership

Membership. Webster’s defines this word as “being a member of a group.” Although it’s sort of a cardboard description of the term, that truly is the basic meaning.

Having spent the past 22+ years serving as an association executive in several different industries, the term “membership” has been the sole focus of my career. For me, membership is at the core of what I do and it matters deeply how that word is viewed by the companies that comprise our organization.

In June of last year, the CSA Board of Directors gathered to discuss the strategic vision of our organization as we navigate through the next three years. READ MORE

But even when they don't initially see eye-to-eye, they reach agreement pretty quickly.

"We don't always agree," Jim said recently, "so we talk until we can both live with the decision."

Making decisions is only one of the ways that this father-son team works well together.  READ MORE

2017 Georgia Legislative Update

Katie Base RobertsReview of Legislative Days 29-35

By Katie Base Roberts
Director of Governmental Affairs
Fiveash Stanley, Inc.

Flow of Legislation Slowly Resumes
During Week 9, the General Assembly was in session Monday through Thursday.  Despite a busy committee meeting schedule, many bills were only given hearings.  Keeping a bill trapped in committee allows the committee chair to use it as leverage to nudge along priority legislation that has stalled in the opposite chamber.

This was no more evident than in the Rules Committees, where very few bills were placed on debate calendars, despite a growing list of eligible legislation.  The stalemate began to turn at the end of the week and the House and Senate will consider a combined 18 bills when they return on Monday.  With only five legislative days remaining, the pace will quicken as sine die approaches. How Smart People Handle Difficult People

By Travis Bradberry, Contributor

Difficult people defy logic. Some are blissfully unaware of the negative impact that they have on those around them, and others seem to derive satisfaction from creating chaos and pushing other people’s buttons. Either way, they create unnecessary complexity, strife and worst of all stress.

Studies have long shown that stress can have a lasting, negative impact on the brain. Exposure to even a few days of stress compromises the effectiveness of neurons in the hippocampus -- an important brain area responsible for reasoning and memory. Weeks of stress cause reversible damage to neuronal dendrites (the small “arms” that brain cells use to communicate with each other), and months of stress can permanently destroy neurons. Stress is a formidable threat to your success -- when stress gets out of control, your brain and your performance suffer. READ MORE
