Time Flies When You're Having Fun

Yeva ClarkBy Yeva Clark, SHRM-CP
CSA Director of HR & Workforce Development

Hello, CSA family! I really enjoyed spending time with you during our annual conference in beautiful Sandestin last week. Didn’t we have fun?! The time just flew by.

Now that we’re back to our normal schedules, I’ve had the opportunity to reflect on my first year with CSA. It’s gone like a flash, too. It proves the adage that time flies when you’re having fun. (Yes, I do actually think HR is fun!)

During the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about our industry and the common HR challenges CSA members face.

For example, we all know that it's difficult to recruit for and retain certain positions in our industry. (Drivers ring a bell?)

New Notice Requirement for Fair Credit Reporting Now in Effect

Effective Sept. 21, 2018, employers and background check companies must begin using the following two amended model Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) disclosure notices:

The Summary of Consumer Rights is a summary of rights to obtain and dispute information in consumer reports and to obtain credit scores. The Summary of Consumer Identity Theft Rights is a summary of rights of identity theft victims.

The notices were updated because the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act requires consumer reporting agencies to provide national security freezes to consumers at no cost.

The interim final rule mandates that when FCRA requires an individual to receive the Summary of Consumer Rights Under FCRA notice, the Summary of Consumer Rights Identity Theft notice must also be included.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is the agency overseeing this requirement.
